Meet the team

Although incorporated in 2009, the origins of Lindley Financial Management go much further back with the senior management team having worked together for almost three decades. Our business is based upon us developing successful, long-term relationships with our clients. We aim to become a trusted adviser on all financial matters no matter how circumstances change. Key to this mission is our dedication to constantly understand our clients’ needs.

We remain staunchly independent, which is vital to the integrity and quality of our services. This means we are exclusively client advisers, not product providers. When our advice does involve the use of products or structures, we only recommend and utilise those that have been thoroughly researched from the whole of the market and passed our rigorous selection procedures.

Matthew Cook

Matthew has worked in financial services for the last 17 years and qualified as a Chartered Financial Planner in 2013.

Previously to joining Lindley Financial Management, Matthew spent the bulk of his career with a boutique wealth management firm in the financial district of Leeds city centre. He then held a senior position with a Private Bank, growing on his knowledge and experience of providing financial planning advice to high net worth individuals.

Matthew decided he wanted adopt a more client focused approach to financial planning and that Lindley Financial Management would enable him to deliver on this. He was promoted to Managing Director in late 2020, and he is responsible for all compliance aspects along with the smooth running of the business. He also has a small portfolio of clients that he looks after as well as being involved in meeting clients with the other advisers as and when needed.

Colin has worked in financial services all his working life having gained Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Diploma of the Personal Finance Society and the Investment Management Certificate of CFA Society of the UK.

He ran his own IFA practice until 2014 specialising in tax-planning and investments including managing a number of multi-manager funds and in-house discretionary portfolios.  During the latter part of this he chaired the Investment Committee for an association of 5 IFA firms monitoring performance and risk of appointed fund managers to the association’s Distributor Influenced OEIC. At that time he established Professional Fund Maintenance Ltd to offer a similar service to other IFA firms.

Colin now provides a comprehensive quarterly reporting service to Lindley on all aspects of performance, investment risk management and due diligence for both the underlying managers and the platforms we use.

Mark Learmont

Senior Consultant

Having completed an eight year short service commission in the army, Mark joined financial services working initially for a national financial advisory firm working out of their Leeds office. Mark worked his way up to a Director position, training and leading a team of less experienced financial planners.

Eight and a half years later, Mark joined a major independent firm in Bradford as a Partner. This allowed him to concentrate on other aspects of the business and adopting a more client focused role. He was instrumental in the IF Alliance and remained a Board Member until he left the company. He was largely responsible for the introduction of a series of OEIC Funds owned by the alliance, which at its height had over £150,000,000 invested across them.

Wanting true independence and a voice to be heard in regulatory scandals, Mark formed his own company Lindley Financial Management Limited. For the past ten years he has combined this with his other passion, which is ensuring a fairer regulatory framework, which has involved many meetings in Parliament and all over the country. One of his greatest achievements was making the FCA order Capita to pay back in excess of £80,000,000 to investors in a white collar fraud.

At the age of 63, he has decided to let the youth have a turn, and in Matthew Cook, has found the ideal person to take over the reins whilst allowing him to stay on for three days a week doing the job he loves – seeing clients!

What our clients say about us

I trust my doctor with my health, I trust very few friends with a book; I trust Mark Learmont with my wealth.

Mark Houlbrook

Senior Consultant

Mark has worked in the financial services industry for almost 35 years. His primary speciality is in pensions planning with a keen focus on achieving the best outcomes for his clients. These clients are a combination of individuals, businesses and corporate firms.

For the first 11 years of his career, Mark worked for two family run businesses of Independent Financial Advisers, giving him an understanding of investment markets, pensions and tax solutions.

Following this he worked for 3 years as a senior pension consultant with a national dedicated pension company. This fuelled an interest and specialism in pension planning which has been a driving force in subsequent careers moves.

Mark was approached by one of his broker firms to enhance their pensions expertise and support other members of the team. Ultimately, this led to being appointed as a partner in 2003, alongside Mark Learmont at a major independent Bradford firm.

In 2009, Mark left the firm to form his own business, Thorn Investment & Pension Services, concentrating on his clients as they approach retirement, helping them ensure their portfolios are structured in the most efficient manner, to provide the best outcome for their circumstances.

Following the merger of Thorn Investment & Pension Services he has continued to work in the business advising clients alongside Mark Learmont and Matthew Cook.

What our clients say about us

Mark has been advising me for over 20 years, initially with regard to my pension arrangements which enabled me to retire early. Thereafter he advised me on investments which have produced healthy returns. He has given my wife and me sound advice on money matters which has also included a reassuring amount of common sense. This has given a helpful balance to the timing and success of our financial transactions. I will continue to rely on him for advice and have no reservations in recommending his services.
